How Photographers See The World
How Photographers See The World
Isn’t it amazing how one photo of the beach can entice you to travel? How one picture of food makes you suddenly crave it and how a photo of a product makes you want to try it? Isn’t it a wonder how a portrait can convey so much emotion? Certainly, photography is a great way to attract you, make you feel, and make you curious.
But the thing with photography is, the subject is as important as the one capturing it. Plus, it is all about perspective. See, you can travel to the exact same spot and buy the same food or product but you can’t capture the same photo. No, this isn’t because of photoshop and editing techniques, it’s because of perspective.
The photos you see are a reflection of how a photographer sees it. And if you haven’t heard it yet, yes, photographers do see the world differently and we are here to tell you how.
Photographers see extraordinary in the ordinary
Photographers are great at seeing something special in something so ordinary. It’s all about passion, and having an eye for detail. Have you ever looked at a building in the midday sun, and noticed the shadow? How it falls on the footpath, or the reflection on the glass from the trees? Have you ever walked down the street and seen someone pointing a camera at a random object and thinking what are they taking a photo of, there is nothing interesting about that lamp post!
When photographers see something beautiful or interesting, they want to capture it. And they’ll do everything to make sure they can capture it the way they are seeing it. That’s why you might often see them get into precarious positions, in order to get that perfect shot. This is also why most of the time, you don’t end up with the same kind of image even if you have the same subject.
Photographers know people’s desire and feelings
A photographer, such as a professional food and product photographer, knows what triggers people – their desires and feelings. This allows him to compose an image in a way to entice the viewer, making it look attractive and delicious. Additionally, a photographer can see the beauty of food as their subject and know how to highlight it to make people want to try it!
Have you ever seen a photo of a slice of pizza for example, where the cheese is stretching, where you can see the steam coming off the piping hot slice, the crust looking super crunchy. Just talking about it is making me want to order a pizza right now, imagine if that image was in front of me!

Photographers really see people
Walking down the street, how often do you notice the people around you? Strangers faces, a child playing in a puddle, a man walking his dog, an old woman out for her daily stroll. For many adults, it’s normal to just ignore strangers and walk past them. But for most photographers, when they look at strangers, they see an individual and often wonder about their story. They see the creases on their face, their emotion, and character. This is why they capture such breathtaking portraits that evokes a feeling in you. This is also why newborn and maternity photographers like Renee Joanne Photography are so great. They capture feeling, which is a difficult talent to possess.
Photographers are more conscious of what’s going on around them
For photographers, they are always conscious of moments and everything that’s going on around them. They recognise when a moment is important, which is especially important for a wedding photographer. They know that even the smallest and fleeting moments have magic in them. Thus, making them act quickly so those magical moments can be captured and forever enjoyed by their viewer.
Since photographers are more conscious of what’s around them, this makes them extremely skilled at noticing all the finer details too. This is especially true with wildlife and nature photographers. They can capture such powerful images of nature at work. Like the intricate details of a birds feathers or a snakes skin. Up close and macro shots of an ant carrying a crumb or a bee pollinating a flower. This is truly a magical gift that allows them to show the world just how beautiful animals and nature really are.
Photographers take the time to stop and look
It might be hard to believe but sometimes I see in colour and in black and white. Knowing if an image will look great in either is a difficult thing to achieve and takes time. Having a keen eye, seeing literally and abstract is something I have worked on and refined over the years but consciously taking the time to stop and look around will help you to refine these skills too!
This is what makes photographers great in instances where moments can literally pass by without a second thought and be gone forever. All too often this happens at weddings, portrait sessions, and events, so as a photographer, it’s important to take the time to stop and look around.
Great photography takes practice
The way a photographer sees the world greatly affects the outcome of their work. Their ability to see things differently makes them more capable of capturing photos that can elicit emotions such as happiness, joy, cravings, curiosity, solitude, and sadness. However, perspective is just one factor of taking beautiful and breathtaking shots. It also takes a lot of skill and practice.
Along with perspective, a photographer also needs skills in framing the shot, adjusting the light, using lenses correctly, focusing on the subject, and composition techniques. It also takes a lot of practice and honing their talent. All these make great photography for seeing the magic in the mundane or the extraordinary in the ordinary.
